Newsflash from the campaign trail
Mother Jones reports that Republican Presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee hates sadomasochists (as well as homosexuals, pedophiles and necrophiliacs). And environmentalists, pornographers and atheists.

Huckabee wrote in his 1998 children’s book, Kids Who Kill: Confronting Our Culture of Violence: "It is now difficult to keep track of the vast array of publicly endorsed and institutionally supported aberrations — from homosexuality and pedophilia to sadomasochism and necrophilia." He also wrote, "Abortion, environmentalism, AIDS, pornography, drug abuse, and homosexual activism have fragmented and polarized our communities." Huckabee also claims that "equality in the workplace has ironically worked against women in innumerable ways."

Since I'm a woman who happens to be a kinky, bi, atheist, environmentalist who helped file a lawsuit challenging obscenity law on the Internet... do you think he's talking about me? If so, where's my institutional support? Where's my public endorsement, god damn it?

There's plenty of irony to go around; but Huckabee is as likely to be the next president as I am, so those options are closed. Don't sweat it. Even if he got the Republican nod (which is enormously unlikely) he'd get whomped in the general by pretty much anyone.

I certainly hope so. Romney has been getting a lot of attention at the 11th hour, and I keep hearing about Huckabee as Guliani takes a dive (no surprise to NYers). I think it's appalling that Huckabee has gotten as far as he has. What does that say about our times?

Complicated things, actually. But that's for another time.

For now, things like this (which took no time at all to find in the feeds, meaning it's probably about to get carried widely) suggest that there really is no danger.

Ahhh a fiscal liberal and social conservative... *shuddering*

It's people like Huckabee who give Republicans a bad name. Why can't you take your party back?

They do that, the Dems do the same, the Libertarians kick out the wackos... could shape up to be a real nice future for my wayward country.

I am so disappointed in the candidates presenting themselves. I do consider it my job to vote no matter what, even if it's for the lesser of two evils...and I'm thinking it may come to that.

I keep doing the same thing - who is the least offensive? Who might have a chance of changing campaign finance laws so that insurance companies and Big Oil don't control what happens in our country?

For what it's worth, here's one member of the Public endorsing you.

But keep in mind, I've got an FBI file upon me. So my actions 'pon the net are being tracked. Beware.

Thank you for your public endorsement!

Likely I have an FBI file, as well. When I was writing UFO Headquarters, I visited Area 51 where they test secret aircraft, and I also was given a tour of the Nevada Test Site where they used to set off the nuclear bombs. I describe the story of our trip to Area 51 in the first chapter of my book - we were on the edge (lined with sensors) and a Blackhawk helicopter rose out of a gorge out of nowhere and went right over our heads. There was a guy with a gun in the open door tracking us - it was wild.

Interesting, did you manage to actually get into the facility? Or was it just along the fence/border?

One would think that it was Dick (head) Cheney's backyard the way they treat it.

It was just along the border. A big black SUV was blocking the road. No fences, only sensors spaced along the border. But I did have a watersports scene with one of the sensors...

This just made my skin crawl. Simply the fact that he can't seperate consent from non-consent is shameful and a clear mark that he has no business being within ten feet of the White House gates. Though I'm not worried about him becoming president, per se, I'm worried that his misguided ideals could be popularized by the masses and adopted by another, more popular candidate who might be trying to win the public's affection. I don't care if you try the cowgirl position once a month, so why should you care if I like being slapped every so often?

I'm with you! I doubt he will be elected pres, but the fact that there's someone like this in the running makes my skin crawl. With all the terrible killing going on world-wide in the name of politics and religion, why can't American politicians back off sex???
From: [info]iron_kitten Date: January 1st, 2008 04:22 pm (UTC) (Link)
Silly, it's because they're correct, and they're just trying to make the rest of us understand! Honestly, between this, the sex toy ban, and Christ-only-knows what else, I'm just waiting for Homeland Security to fly through my window the next time I go to Home Depot and buy some rope. What a joke.

Huckabee scares the shit out of me. But that describes just about any republican these days.
And how did he get environmentalism on that list? The other are pretty standard conservative baptist boogey-men, but environmentalism?
